The Stencyl Game Design Expert certification program (Available Q3 2017) has been designed to assess expert level mastery of the fundamental principles, techniques, and skills required to design various genre of computer games using the Stencyl game engine and toolset, at an advanced, professional level.

Exam Standards

  1. Compare and contrast 2D and 3D
    game engines and game development environments.
  2. Analyze the game design
    principles in game mechanics, storyboarding, game flow, and score systems.
  3. Evaluate game design process:
    planning/conceptualizing, prototyping, implementing, and testing.
  4. Analyze the effects of character
    design, scene design, and graphics of game elements.
  5. Compare and contrast various user
    interface design and control mechanism.
  6. Evaluate the application of algebra-based
    physics and vector coordinate systems in game design.
  7. Analyze the effects of animation
    and aesthetics in gameplay.
  8. Evaluate the programming
    mechanism for player handler, movement control, cursor handler, and debugging
  9. Analyze advanced AI applications
    in game design.
  10. Evaluate time-based,
    collision-based, and score-based destructible environment and game over
  11. Evaluate the effective design of
    menu, button, score, and level controls.
  12. Analyze project management and
    team management techniques to organize graphics, sound, programming, and
  13. Evaluate monetization strategies
    for different platforms and publishing channels.
  14. Evaluate game marketing
    strategies for different platforms and publishing channels.
  15. Evaluate the strategies for
    in-game marketing, in-game Ads, and in-game purchasing.
